May 11-17: “Mortals and Immortals”

“Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.” (I John 3:2)

There is a great tenderness to this Bible Lesson. It recounts the experience of Old Testament prophets, of Jesus the Christ, and of his disciples, whose prayers and dedicated work as spiritual seers healed and inspired. It shows how these seers and teachers lift our thought up and beyond the limited picture of life as material, to the glorious freedom of Life, God, as ever-present, all-seeing, all-acting.

“Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.” (I Cor. 51-53)

“In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 360:2-5)

The weekly Bible Lesson is read and studied daily by students of Christian Science the world over.
