Sept. 6-12: “Substance”
Golden Text: “… Ye shall be holy: for I the Lord your God am holy. . . . thou shalt not sow thy field with mingled seed:” (Leviticus 2, 19)
This Bible Lesson reminds us that, if we wish to honor God, to find peace, joy, healing, we must strive to see the substance of life, mankind, all creation, as spiritual, not material.
“Do not err, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. … But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:” (James 1: 16, 17, 22, 23)
“Substance is that which is eternal and incapable of discord and decay. Truth, Life, and Love are substance, as the Scriptures use this word in Hebrews: “The substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Spirit, the synonym of Mind, Soul, or God, is the only real substance. The spiritual universe, including individual man, is a compound idea, reflecting the divine substance of Spirit.” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 468:17)
About the Bible Lesson
The weekly Bible Lesson is read and studied daily by students of Christian Science around the world, and is read on Sundays in Christian Science churches everywhere.
