Aug. 1-7: “Spirit.”
Golden Text: “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing.” (John 6:63)
This Bible Lesson unfolds deeper understanding of Spirit (with a capital “S”) as a synonym for God. It shows us how a recognition of ourselves as the pure, free, joyful expression of Spirit, can free us — cleanse our thought of ourselves — from the burdens of a material concept of mankind.
“…ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” (Romans 8:9)
“The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.” (Job 33:4)
“In Science man is the offspring of Spirit. The beautiful, good, and pure constitute his ancestry. His origin is not, like that of mortals, in brute instinct, nor does he pass through material conditions prior to reaching intelligence. Spirit is his primitive and ultimate source of being; God is his Father, and Life is the law of his being.” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 63:5)
